It was peaceful sitting like that, wrapped in each other in ways that their love forced them to be. He kept his arms around Justine as best he could, letting her sleep on his lap while he stayed awake. His eyes flicked to the TV, watching the movie without really seeing while he stroked his gloved fingers through her white-grey hair.
This was what life was supposed to be. And what it was now. Though he knew they'd go back to Chicago eventually, it was a decent little vacation from the horrors of the world. He smiled at Justine though she was asleep and thought, I love you.
Then he pulled a throw blanket over her thin shoulders and set about watching her for the night. It was his chosen responsibility, and no harm would come to her while he was here to protect her. Ever.
