Justine was exhausted. She had only been healing from her near-death experience a few months, and she had a feeling that it would take her years to get her strength back entirely. Oh, she was better than she had been - there was no doubt of that. She could stand on her own now, without needing the chair to convey herself around. True, that had only happened within the past two weeks, but it was a step in the right direction. Being able to move around with just a cane was a huge step.
Arriving in this place had frightened her deeply; waking up out of her sleep in this strange place had been a shock to her system. Nervous energy had helped her to work the cb, but when she had found Thomas and knew herself to be safe, that energy had drained away from her quickly, leaving her unable to keep consciousness.
So now, she lay on the grass, her hands being used as a pillow under her head, her eyes tightly closed as she slept in the shade of a giant oak tree that grew near the center of the park. She blinked when the static from the CB interrupted her, but Thomas's voice grabbed her from her sleep and she reached out to grab the device and pressed the button on the side.
