Neytiri too, had much to think about. That was why she had taken to the woods - to clear her mind of all the pollution of the city and find her perspective here in the hands of Eywa. It was different here - the trees and animals were foreign to her, and the smells were strange, but she had no doubt that Eywa was here as well, watching over her as She watched over all living things.
Climbing into a tree with stealth and grace, she passed from one tree to the next, coming to the floor of the forest only on those few occasions that the canopy failed. Finally she found herself a place to sit, resting against the tree high up in the branches, closing her eyes to the growing night.
This place was beyond strange. There was no doubt of that. Everything was different from everything she knew, and it would be a lie to say that it did not frighten her. Fear was not weak, she knew that, but it had to be controlled nonetheless - one could not let fear overpower them. And she was trying.
She was very glad that Jake was here. His presence was like a balm on her fears, and it also comforted her to know that he would understand this place better than she did. In a sense, their roles had been reversed from what they had been on Pandora, and she did not like it one bit. She did not like the Sky People and their wisdom, or how they tried to tell her what was right or what was good for her. What did they know of her? Nothing! They were ignorant children who thought they knew everything only because their minds had yet to be opened to anything outside of their very small frames of reference.
She exhaled deeply, trying to focus, trying to center herself to the energies of the forest, but they were strange energies, and she felt less focused, if anything, and her ears flattened a bit as she shifted her position against the tree.
Jake's presence, though, came with its own set of problems. He was trapped in his chair, unable to move without it. He could not come to the forest with her, and she had no wish to stay in the city. But...she did want to be with him, and she had not missed the sad look on his face when they had that conversation. She sighed again, running her fingers over her braids.
It was then that she heard the sounds below her, and was instantly on alert, her tail flicking a bit as she perched on the limb and looked down on them.
The man looked something like one of the Sky People, only his hair was long and he was far taller than most. And he glowed! Almost like the plants in a Pandoran night, it came from within him, a pure and good light that made her move a bit closer to see better.
What was he doing?
He was speaking to the tree in a language she did not know, and she could feel its energies stirring beneath her bare feet. Was he speaking to the tree? Could he manipulate the energies? But only Eywa could do that. She let out a little hiss of alarm - too quiet for the Sky People to hear, to be sure, and moved as close as she could in the hope of hearing his words...
