Between. The impenetrable cold of between swallowed F'lar and left him numb, clinging desperately to the erratic hold of Mnementh's mind as they plummeted through nothing. There was no space for a breath, no room for the fierce pound of a brave heart, or time to think clearly. The reassuring voice of Mnementh telling him he was there with F'lar did little but keep him from dropping off the verge of sanity.
Then it was abruptly over. The world opened up as if they'd been sucked into a vacuum and spit into the world with contempt. F'lar tightened his knees and held onto Mnementh, a burst of laughter escaping him in a rare show of delight. Mnementh righted his erratic plummet with a fierce beat of his wings, and pulled his massive weight from a dead-fall into a graceful leveling flight as they shot out over the land underneath them. The deep roar of the dragon trumpeted through the air, and F'lar turned his eyes upon the city underneath and the wilds about it, watching as the animals scattered and raced to safety on instinct.
From this height he could see the entirety of the city below, but there was no familiarity to be had. Had Mnementh jumped between time instead of between space? The dragon denied his part in this mystery and consented silently to turn and descend on the city with the soaring, graceful lunge of a dragon.
