Maedhros lay prone on Fingon's bed, sprawled really, with the casual grace of a lounging prince. His red hair spilled about him like the fiery rays of the sun, going whichever way as if blown in a windstorm. His hand(s) rested on his belly and toyed idly with the clasps of his doublet, his somber grey eyes peered up at the canopy overhead, watching it without seeing. He had told Fingon a week or more ago that he would leave the castle, and that conversation had descended into pleading and a premature decision. He didn't want to hurt Fingon, or make the other elf believe he was abandoning him. He was not, but it was necessary to depart from the company of his aunt and uncle.
And to find peace.
Rivendell had arrived, the sanctuary built by Elrond, and that in itself had a particular appeal. Maedhros closed his eyes briefly, a smile played across his face and he listened to the sound of Fingon's voice and slowly turned his head to look at him. He hadn't heard what the other elf was saying, but ignored that for the moment and pushed himself to sitting, his long red hair spilling down his back like rivers of flame as he did so.
"Your foolishness," he chided, "will be the death of us all." It was playful in intent, as Maedhros could never truly think badly of Fingon, or be cruel to him. "But I must distract and disturb you for a moment."
