After nearly twenty-five hundred years of life Turgon paid little attention to the details of monthly living. Days passed like seconds, and weeks--aye months--seemed to him such a unremarkable amount of time that he hardly noticed it. How long he'd been on the island he couldn't rightly say. It felt like a few weeks but he could not recall the exact day he'd arrived. However, it had been 30 days since he'd woken up in Elenwë's body, and over that short time he'd come to accept the situation for what it was. Being adults with a certain level of maturity allowed Turgon and Elenwë to examine the strange happening and talk about it throughout their shared journey.
They were partners through and through, and fifteen hundred years of marriage had left them with a bond that spread both spiritually, mentally, and physically between them. He'd inherited her body overnight and she his, and though he found himself confused about it, he had not felt ashamed or embarrassed. He'd laid with her more times than they could count, knew her body in ways no other man would ever and felt just as comfortable in her skin as he was in his own. There was none of that juvenile squirming, shaming, or poking fun.
Sure they'd teased each other, experimented, but ultimately knew each other down to their very core. The experience had been enlightening, and Turgon was glad for the opportunity to have it. Together, as partners, they'd overcome a remarkable amount of Turgon's issues and he was half certain it was due in part to being in his wife's body. He'd become familiar with her again, woke his desire for her, and grew comfortable with the idea of seeing her naked, and trusted absolutely that she would never push, rush or force him into anything he was not prepared to do.
He wouldn't have minded spending the rest of his life as her, as it was the woman he loved inside, and not her body. Which meant that he too was not defined by having a penis, and so looked at himself no differently as her than he did in his male body. But to wake in the morning with his arms around her--instead of the other way with her around him--was disconcerting, confusing and weird. Turgon jumped up when the shock of golden hair met his eyes, and he shouted an exclamation.
"Ai!" and scrambled out of the covers, his feet hitting the floor hard because it came up sooner than he'd expected. "Elenwë!" he said, his too long limbs gangly but under his control. Almost twenty-five hundred years in his body couldn't be erased from his understanding in a mere 30 days.
