"Yeah, you're probably right," he commented, trying to keep the hurt out of his tone, but it was always a struggle. Everything felt so intense all of the time, and honestly, on the island it felt a million times worse.
And then what more was there for them to talk about? He gave her a little shrug, move as if he was just going to leave, but didn't.
"You know, when I found out- I threatened him. I warned him not to hurt you," he pointed out, regretting what he was about to say even as he realised it was coming out of his mouth. "I was too blind to see that it was always going to be the other way around."
