Marian knew that the suit she wore did not hide her state from the world, but she had begun to not quite care that it was hid. She wasn't the only woman with child, nor was she the only unwed one. And she saw no shame in it. She could say she was proud to carry the son of the man she spent most of her life loving. And she wouldn't hide the pride of the rounded belly. And so she found herself, on the beach, enjoying the cool sea breeze. Enjoying the lap of the surf over her toes. In a swimsuit made for expectant mothers. A one piece in a lovely shade of blue. Though she did have the presence of mind to wear a large brimmed hat so that she did not burn. Watching the waves, Marian was content. She wouldn't stretch things as far to say that she was happy. But she was content. |
