Going through the door had been the worst idea. He didn't know why he'd listened to the religious man, except that he didn't know what he was meant to be doing on the island, and it had seemed like a reasonable enough explanation. 1917. He'd definitely had unfinished business there, there was a clear explanation for the appearance of the door. But whatever that business was- if there had been any to begin with- he definitely hadn't managed to finish it. He'd just spent a horrible few days in pain.
He really needed to thank everyone- Eames especially- for carrying him out of that hell and back to the island before the door closed upon him. He'd been taken up to the hospital for John to check him over properly and send him away with some medication he wasn't sure about, but he would trust the doctor. He stayed there the night, and on Sunday morning he headed back down to the apartment building.
The first thing he noticed was that the elevators weren't working. He groaned slightly as he started to ascend the staircase. He was too weary for this exertion. It took him longer than it normally would, but eventually he reached his door. He called out for Nick instantly, his voice horribly hoarse.
