Alright, Hurley - You are the Caretaker, and you can certainly take care of Yourself... So thought Neil Hurley to himself, delirious, as he swayed on his knees (for his /feet/ had already given out from under him, on this wet, moveable sand). He was going to die, he knew that much, and yet - the thought no longer bothered him, really... for he would be able to apologise to the Man properly, at the gates of Heaven... Or so he /hoped/, rather; he quite suddenly realised that Saint Peter might not even bother to confront him with those he had Wronged in Life, before casting him into the Pit...! After all, what ambiguity could there possibly be in the act of burying a man in the desert, and making a vow and an oath never to speak of "the Man" again...? But nay, Neil thought desperately. No! For that /other/ man is coming to find me... though he hasn't bothered to explain just /how// he might do that, with only my phone...! Wait,//this/ is a PHONE!? What in G-d's name...? But he suddenly realised that he'd swayed straight onto his stomach, and had to cease his mental struggling, in order to focus on the /physical/ fight to keep his /face/ out of the sand...! Yes, the other nice man would be along at any moment... He could wait just a moment longer... despite of his face threatening to fall straight into the sand dunes, and the sand's own threat to suffocate him, should he allow that to happen... |
