After receiving the message that Sara was out scouting locations with Merry, Elenwë had set up her easel in the living room. She was not one to pout, or to sit around and wait listlessly for her husband to turn up - each of them had their own loves and interests and they did not begrudge the other their freedom. It was one of the beautiful things of their relationship, that they were free to be who they were, and that they did not fear spending time apart.
Taking out her paints and a fresh canvass, she sat and closed her eyes for a moment, imagining the sunset in her mind. All the bright colors, the reds and oranges and yellows of the sky, and the deep greens and blues of the water...the golden of the sand and the blue of the sky. All of them touched her heart with something she could not explain in words but that her husband understood without needing any.
Finally, opening her eyes again, she began to paint, enthralled in her work, not noticing how much time had passed, or anything at all except the scene unfolding on her canvass.
