Tony had managed to convince Maria that he really could play outside all by himself, though he was pretty sure it had more to do with the fact that she could watch him from one of the windows in the apartment. He didn't like that there weren't any other kids his age to play with, but he'd always had a great imagination and he'd found his favorite ball when he woke up that morning. So he played outside, making sure to keep the ball out of the street even though there weren't any cars. He would kick the ball and then run after it, laughing as he did. One of the times, however, the ball got away from him and came to a stop in the middle of the street. He stopped on the curb, just staring at it. He really wanted to go get it but mama had told him to never go out into the street. |
