Since his flashes of the future had apparently started to include some good news, Desmond had been able to maintain a foolish belief that maybe his visions were a gift from God, not a curse, not a test-
But that was about to change again. Monday afternoon brought another flash with it, short and to the point- pulling Kate's lifeless body from the ocean's wave, so real that he could feel the grains of sand on her wet skin, and taste the salt on his lips as he delivered CPR. And as soon as it had started, it was over, and he was standing in the middle of the street in shock.
A few seconds of silent horror and then he started to run, not slowing until there was sad underfoot, making him stumble with each step. "Kate!" he screamed, scanning the water for a sign of struggle. Shoes came off, jacket, shirt, left abandoned on the sand as he saw her-
The cold water hit him and took his breath away, but he swam out to her, grabbed onto her and lifted her up out of the water. "Kate, come on Kate-" he almost begged of her clearly lifeless body. He headed back to shore, dragging her with him until they hit the dry shore again. He checked for a pulse- nothing. "Please God, no, no, don't do this- please, come on, bring her back," he pleaded in a sort of desperate prayer. If God wouldn't help him, he'd have to do it himself. He started CPR, trying to keep it together for her.
