She'd never accidentally travelled before. She'd accidentally travelled to the wrong place or forgotten where she'd travelled to, but she'd never not travelled and just been somewhere. It couldn't be a good thing. It meant that she didn't know where she was or how to get back. But she wasn't going to let that upset her. She'd just work out which world this was and make her way back. Cities like this weren't uncommon, but she knew ways to tell similar worlds apart. Although some things about this place didn't look right. That big tower for one, and a bunch of other things as she looked down the street, too. Isra frowned. They weren't manifestations, were they? They didn't seem to be. The girl approached the closest seemingly out of place thing to her - a big wooden post with colourful ribbons hanging from it.. that happened to be standing in the road. She reached a tentative hand out to touch it. It was there. She couldn't make the ribbons spin though, so it wasn't just tangible, it was real. Which was what she'd thought. Isra frowned all the more. And something else had just occurred to her. It was so quiet here. Maybe it was all a manifestation? Isra stepped away from the pole, eyes wide. She went to call out, but managed to sort of stop herself at the last minute, her hands covering the strangled noise that came out of her mouth. She gulped. It had to be real and she didn't want to draw that kind of attention to herself. She balled her hands into fists and held her arms straight down beside her. This was just a strange city. She had moved recently, so most corresponding places were new to her. She just had to work out where this was and she'd be fine. One of her methods for doing that involved finding a newspaper. Even if she was unfamiliar with this particular part of the world, there were often names of other parts that stood out. Listening to people talk and to what they called each other was also helpful. She couldn't see any of those newspaper machines some cities had though, nor any stands. But maybe this wasn't the right part of the city for those. It was very quiet. Having relaxed her arms again, Isra set off, looking both ways before crossing the street. It wasn't long before she reached a busier looking strip. There were cars parked further down the street, which she thought was a good sign. She still couldn't see any machines or stands, but maybe one of the buildings held what she was after. She made her way slowly up the street, trying not to draw attention to herself as she checked the buildings. Everything was closed though. Maybe it was a holy day here? She might just have to wait until she encountered some life. With a bit of a sigh, Isra leaned her back up against a lamp post. She was starting to get rather worried now. |
