Nina continued to observe everyone as if she could simply sense something was off. George, she had learned quite quickly, was a romantic, not a charmer – that was entirely different. So really, whilst she didn't expect things from George, it was certainly noticeable when something was amiss. And there certainly was something – the way he hovered about Mitchell.
His reasoning too, was a little off. Nina likes cards? True, she liked cards when they said something from George and despite the fact he had not lingered by her she read his heartfelt script with a smile. Still, It didn't stop her from contributing to Mitchell's assumptions. “Actually.” She said more matter-of-factly. “I think it's all a bunch of American guilt-fuelled tosh.” She decided at this moment, what George had written meant a lot more than the fact it was a day you were expected to express it.
“I ..could be back for dinner.” But, everyone? George, surely was just trying to be kind. Surely that look toward Mitchell meant he was inviting everyone, but he didn't necessarily want them to be there. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Right?
For Mitchell and Annie it was no doubt an uneven path and would be for perhaps a little longer, though Nina had confidence that she'd get through to him. “Oh ..well- I'm sure. Annie and Mitchell might ..have their own plans, already?” Nina cut in with a hinting, bright and hopeful sort of look toward Annie as if she was welcome to run with it. Though they may have things to sort out, surely time alone, be it just to talk, to get used to know one another wouldn't be a bad thing.
