Aj hadn't believed her eyes at first, when she had walked in front of the window to Maryanne's restaurant and saw Big Mac sitting there in front of it, with her. She'd admit that she lost her temper rather quickly, and picked up the nearest thing and threw it. It just so happened it was a rock. If it had been bigger she might have shattered the glass, rather than just crack it in the middle. If she had kicked it, it wouldn't have mattered what size it was. She'd taken out her fair share of timber wolves with a well placed bucked stone, in the Everfree forest. But it hadn't been in her mind to do anything but throw it. The betrayal she felt cut deep. Deep enough that she could almost swear she was bleeding. After throwing the rock, she ran, ran fast enough to nearly leave Winona in the dust. She ran without a true destination. Ran without caring that she'd left her hat to fall in between here and there. It wasn't until she found herself in the small Church park that she stopped. Standing beside one of the slender tall pine trees that littered the grounds was where hurt and denial turned into anger. Dropping to her hands and knees without thought, she reared up on her arms and rammed the heals of her boots into the trunk of the tree. The first time rid it of all it's pine cones, the second time rid it of all it's needles, the third there was an obvious crack and groan beneath her heals, the forth kick there was a crack of a different kind, even as the tree began to give way, and list to the side. She had to stop at four, because the crack had come from her. And she rolled to her side, as the pain shot up her leg. Aj held her leg as she bit back the pain that ebbed from it. Face twisted and pinched, as she barked out soft groans. It was then that her loyal Shepard licked her face. Trying to urge her up. With a whimper, she knew the dog was right she didn't need to be laying there if it started to snow again. With a lot of held breath, and gritted teeth, she rose up on her good leg. Attempting to put weight on the other made her see stars. "Son of a street clopper that hurts." She gasped out. Looking around she spotted a limb that looked big enough and wide enough to support her weight. "Winona, go get me that stick girl." She nodded toward the one in question, and the dog darted to it, hoisted it up between her teeth and carried it over, dropping it at Aj's feet. "Good girl." Leaning forward was hard without toppling over. It took at least five attempts before she was able to get the limb and use it as a crutch. Between the branch and the dog she was able to hobble over to the church. Knowing the timbers she'd attempted to put up would have a pew or two clear of snow, and sheltered. Settling down on one, she lay back and propped her leg up on the side. One arm draped over her eyes as she couldn't fight both the emotional pain of being lied to, and the throb in her calf, and she began to sob. |
