Just as the sun began to set, the taxi pulled up outside the house. John paid the driver and got out, Bryn not too far behind him. It had been a long time since he had seen the old house. Far too long. With good reason too. The house had been a part of his past. A part he had wanted to leave behind. It was something he wanted to show to Bryn. At least before he took her somewhere a bit more fun. A bar in New Orleans he used to frequent came to mind.
Walking up the path towards the wooden steps, he stopped to look back at Bryn. He wasn't entirely sure why he had chosen to take her to the house. He could have taken her to far more interesting places. But that house? It was important to him. It was a part of him, as much as he hated that. It stood as a symbol of one of his biggest failures. And a symbol of change. It helped make him the man he would become. After all they'd been through, he owed her that much at least. To show her that truth.
"This is the house that changed everything for me" he said, taking out a packet of cigarettes. He tapped one free and placed it between his lips, taking out a zippo lighter. "Changed everything for a bunch of us" he added, before lighting his cigarette. "We've known each other long enough. Thought it might be worth showing you while we had the chance" he shrugged, before heading up the stairs. A few muttered words and he pushed the doors open, walking into the house.
