Alexander gave her smile and a nod. He wouldn't push the point, but he really did appreciate her being there. He looked at the packet, and realised he was going to need to get some water.
"Can I get you a drink or anything? Tea, coffee?" he asked, without his usual pep. He just felt weird and deflated.
At her mention of Philip, Alexander avoided eye contact at first but gave her a nod of confirmation. "Mmhmm. Sleeping, though," he clarified. "I doubt he usually lives here, but... I don't know, he wanted to make sure I got back home alright," he shrugged. It was meant to be the other way around, surely. He was meant to be looking after his son.
