Sirius couldn't speak at first, overwhelmed as he was. The tears just kept falling. But he was looking at Philip now, not at his own arm, and that didn't make it hurt any less but at least it stopped that strange dizzy feeling that had been creeping over him.
Philip's suggestion, however, only provoked alarm. 'No!' he cried out, before swiping at his eyes a few times with the back of his good arm, trying to look less upset. He tried to reach out and grab on to Philip beside him, and took a couple of shuddery, hitching breaths. What he wanted to say was that he wasn't supposed to fly that fast, and he definitely wasn't allowed to fly that fast and spin the broom, and that meant if Arcturus found out he'd be in big trouble.
And what he wanted to say even more than that was that he wanted his mama. But she wasn't here, and Uncle Arcturus was, and as much as Sirius just wanted to make this all go away, he knew that he needed someone. He couldn't fix this by himself.
Sniffling, he let go. 'Get him please,' he said in a small voice. 'But say I was flying slow.'
