"Doctor Sparkles with no sparkles? We can't have that." Miguel smiled up at her (and wasn't that weird?) and made a show of examining her eyes. "I can see that it's you, even with the beard and the lack of pink sparkles. In the same way that you could tell it was me a few days ago with all the hair and the stupid shocking bras," he said, and then kissed the back of her hand. Then he tugged on that hand a little bit, so she'd step forward and stand beside him.
"We'll get Mouse to know you again," he said, and looked back round at their dog.
"Will you learn Sarah's new scent? Remember, it's not her fault that this happened, okay? So don't growl or bark or anything like that." If Miguel felt awkward at all about having a full-on conversation with a dog, it didn't show. He just talked to Mouse, and expected to be understood. "This isn't fun when it happens for the first time, so you need to help. Okay?"
