Katherine noticed the people around her moving. A society like this was nothing she was used to. The island had been an isolated village. Grief-stricken but full of wonder. People came and went. Loss was part of growing up. But so was fascination and the abundance of fantastic places and beings. This place was different. Most people only ever knew one place. But it had a long history that had formed opinions and the culture they were embedded into. She could feel it in the looks she received. What was happening was not the norm and she was clearly an outsider.
She nodded, gaze still directed at the man in front of him. There was a loathing in her eyes as he became all the people that had held her small. The guardsman was still staring at him, confused that a mere woman had overpowered him. "Your lucky day."
For a moment, she stared at the man on the ground. "Up!" The word was spoken in the All-Tongue but the power behind it came from Katherine. For a second her eyes flickered green but that wasn't the most notable. There was something behind the tone of her voice. Something unnatural. The resonance behind it struck more than just physically. It impacted the soul and made people want to follow her orders. It was directed at the guard but a part could still be felt by everyone else. Heads that hadn't paid attention yet turned towards her. The rest just stared. It didn't last long. The power of denial quickly convinced everyone but the guard that there was nothing unusual happening here. The man on the ground, however, got to his feet.
"Lead the way," she said to Enjorlas. He had only tried it a handful of times with her father by her side. But it worked. Good.
