Katherine followed Enjorlas' explanations. Poverty was drenched over the people that were explained to her. Their faces sunken and the rest of the body veiled in clothes that were too wide to show what must be skeletal bodies. There was a snort when the explanation landed on the beggars. Kat couldn't believe that anyone would fall for a trick like that. But maybe her intuition was skewed. Maybe she would have fallen for it once. She had been naive once. The last bit, however, made her head snap towards Enjorlas.
"Two of their children died and they might not have noticed? What kind of people are these?" There was real upset in her voice. They could trick and swindle all they wanted. But when it came to children, Katherine drew a line. A very hard line.
