Katarin stared up at the ship again. She had been aboard airships, and sailing-ships, but nothing that even began to approach the scale of this. Perhaps it should have worried her, but her capacity to be shocked by new things had been blunted by the revelation that she was now living on some great waystation amidst the stars. By comparison to that, this new ship was nothing, and she gave Hemingway a breezy nod and a smile at his suggestion.
'What does it mean to be an AI?' she asked him as they walked towards it. 'Is Jarvis some sort of servant?' That seemed the most plausible interpretation, but she knew better than to take things here for granted. 'I have never seen a ship like this before. I-' another smile, half-embarrassed, 'I have been saying that a lot lately. Thank you, for agreeing to help with this. It will make such a difference.'
As she spoke, they approached the airlock door, which opened with a hiss, eliciting nothing more than a mild look of surprise from Katarin. She glanced back over at Hemingway, waiting for him to lead the way.
