The halls seemed quieter than usual these days. Jessica supposed the shadow things were keeping people closer to home but she was getting tired of the same walls and knocking over all of her shit with the wings she still wasn't quite used to.
Or at least, they had been quieter. As she approached the food court she heard yelling. It sounded like Dan, calling for Abra. It didn't seem completely unusual, but she picked up her pace anyway, just in case he was calling out because she was in trouble.
But then the yelling changed. The voice was Wrong and he was saying things that she didn't think Dan would ever say, especially not to Abra. She turned a corner at almost a full run and saw him, bleeding profusely and leaning against a wall.
It was Dan. But it also wasn't. He looked different in ways she couldn't pinpoint just that second but would notice later and there was something in one of his eyes, something beyond how he looked when he shone.
