Abigail instantly stiffened and her hand reached for a knife. It's just Annie, she reminded herself. She said she would come this way. She relaxed slightly and instead of grabbing the knife, she petted one of the startled dogs that had started barking. The pets were already rattled with Will gone. "Shh." She whispered until the dog settled and then she turned around. Other dogs were sniffing around Annie, while a few more were wandering the apartment, as if constantly looking for him. Perhaps they'd taken a cue from her denial. The cats were mourning in their own way, being quite than usual.
"Hi. The dogs won't hurt you." Abigail said. "Will's never away from them this long without telling me first. He could be hurt." She added with panic in her voice. She wasn't able to accept that he was gone even though she'd checked for his name in her phone. With Hannibal, it had been easier. He'd vanished right in front of her eyes. This was too different, too sad. They'd been a family for so long. It simply couldn't be real.
It had taken a moment of facing Annie for her appearance to register with Abigail "Are you okay?" it occurred to her that if something had happened to Annie and hurt her, the same force might have taken Will. She'd battle anything to get him back.
