Danny had a moment to realize that this was the guy who'd not known what cigarettes were, but still wanted to help him, and then he was being crushed and lifted up off the ground and he couldn't quite breathe because the vodka bottle was being crushed against his chest as well and... then he was let go. Oh.
He took as deep a breath as he could, and again, and then caught on to a couple of things. That had been a hug, and the dragon guy (Dean, ha! Like the wide receiver in school) now thought they were friends. And that Dean baring all his teeth like that was a smile. Jesus. They were close enough that Dan didn't even need to actively use his Shine to sense the dragon man's thoughts, too, and that genuinely seemed to be all that was in his head - Dan was now his friend, having a friend made him happy, and... oh, right, he thought he'd need to protect his new friend. From nightmares? Good luck.
"Nobody hurt me, Dean," he said, scrubbing at his face a little and taking another quick drink of vodka. "I just couldn't sleep. I'm Danny, by the way."
