Dan ignored the animals that were surrounding them. Sure, he helped look after them, he liked most of them (the displacer cats still hated him for some reason) and he fed them almost every day. But they were busy, and so was he.
He ignored Rhys and Loki for the time being. They had their own thing to do, after all.
He ignored the lingering pain in his hand from when he'd punched one of the walls of his home. It didn't matter right now.
He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt quite so angry. His temper was bad, yes, and he bit back on a hell of a lot of it at times, but right now his anger was all-consuming and he knew he wasn't the only one. Higgs had done something that everyone had felt. Then he'd attacked Richie, and then a few hours later, someone else that Dan didn't know yet. It was the attack on Richie that kept Dan's anger going. Dan had been certain that Higgs had been forced to do what he was doing, and yes the man was batshit, but he'd started off doing what the Shards wanted him to do in order to free his son's soul. Right? So how the fuck could he then go and attack a child? And enjoy it? Every time he thought about it or remembered the zip-zips Richie had sent out, his anger somehow grew even more. And so did his resolve.
His eyes were white now, as he brought all of his Shine together, and looked down at his niece.

Higgs was going to pay for what he'd done. Like the True Knot had paid. And the Overlook had paid, twice over now.
