Kytana wasn't exactly shielding herself like she did with the other mind communicators. And some of his thoughts were loud enough that she knew she had almost swayed him. That his own actions thus far had got to him. But that meant she also heard the echoing screams that danced across his mind.
But it wasn't until she heard his, the echoing screams, and the pain that came with them, for what she could only assume was his son. It was that, and only that that urged her forward, close enough for her to place her hand on his arm, not with intent to do more than possibly reach him farther. It escaped her realization that a tear slid down her cheek.
"Please reconsider. She could alter the end for you. You could see him again. She is not only a reader, but a writer as well. No one else will offer you this peace." She didn't remove her hand from his arm, and met his eyes with her own. "And I will personally see to it that the others from the other station, that are here, will return with plenty of seed, and whatever they need to make their station prosper. We have young animals that we can spare, that they could use to start their own herds. It will mean only that we cannot recreationally hunt for another year, but it would be something."
