She was alone with her thoughts. She was sure there were others that were on guard, but she was far enough from them that there was no gap in their guard. She didn't know how good the others were, but she knew she could get to any one of the vantage points should anyone attack. And she could hear, and smell, anyone coming. Though Higgs did have a habit of creeping up on people. But she was prepared. You didn't forget the kind of training she went through. And she was trained to kill the 'unkillable'. It had been nice, not having to be on constant alert, not having to patrol the border of one thing or another, to keep wild animals in check. There was relative peace. Peace that she had enjoyed very much with Jake, and her children. But now she was back to being that weapon. The honed killer. Why had she not attacked yet? Because there was no plan. And if what the others were saying was true, if Higgs did return to life after being slain, then the plan would have to be a solid one. And then there was the fact that Gen and Constantine had been swapped out, along with others. She kept quiet, because if no harm came to her Gen, then she wouldn't have to murder what might be a good person. If they were not safe, then none of the imposters would be. Laura was not so buried in her own thoughts that she did not hear the person come up on her. Her hands were tucked into the pockets of the leather jacket she wore hoping she looked benign. Beneath the jacket she wore a simple black leather camisole, matching black leather pants, and boots with the special slit in the toe that would go unnoticed until her claw protruded from it. It didn't look like it, but she was more than ready to pounce if need be. |
