Richie was panicked, tar had engulfed him up to his chest, he couldn't catch his breath or move. He couldn't see, everything was blurred and dark, but he heard a voice above him. "We both know why I chose you Richie." the harsh voice came along with a foot on his back. He felt blood ooze from under it, warm and wet on his back. He turned to look and couldn't make out the details but he saw enough; a black cloak covering a dingy silver suit and orange pom-pom buttons.
Richie tried to speak, to scream, do anything, but his mouth had been sewn shut, sealed over with a hand made of tar just for extra measure. "It's because you're just annoying little faggot." the voice above him continued, "No one gives a shit about you, you're just that fly in the room, always buzzing in their ears but they can't make you go away." Richie cried, struggling against the tar and the hand and everything else. "No one loves little fairies like you, and they never will. Won't even miss you when one of my friends takes your place." Richie screamed again, trying to force his arms to do anything, to claw at the tar at his mouth...
And that was how he woke up, clawing at his own mouth, covered in a cold sweat and a little bit of blood where he'd irritated his wounds, pleading softly, "No, no, it's not true. Let go, it's not true."
The room was dark, the other boys around him sleeping. They'd pushed together the beds so he could share with Bill and Eddie, Ben's sleeping bag on the floor nearby. Richie still wore his glasses (he'd refused to take them of since he'd woken up) but the darkness made it hard to see anything clearly still so he just curled up on one side, it irritated his cuts there but his back hurt worse and lying on his stomach made him want to throw up. "It's not true." he kept whispering to himself, tugging the blankets up around him, close to his neck.
