Who: Dan and Loki
Where: Dan and Brenna's house, Park, Wheel 1
When: After this
What: Discussing Dan's trip to Higgs' beach.
Open: Not to begin with.

Dan bent down to rub yet another charley horse out of his calf muscle as he waited on the coffee machine brewing a fresh pot. He didn't know if Loki liked coffee, or would take any if offered, but he obviously did, so he was making some. He'd been getting random cramps ever since he'd fallen into Higgs' mind and that damn Watcher had zapped him, but they usually eased off within a minute or so. He wasn't complaining, though, not when he'd seen the state of John's arm after his encounter with Higgs.

The record player was coming to the end of Dark Side of the Moon, and Dan sang quietly along with Brain Damage as he poured out his mug of coffee. Azzie brushed past him on his way to the front door, so Dan followed after and let the cat out, and then leaned on the doorframe as he looked out into the park and drank his coffee while he waited for Loki to show up.

Loki had spent most of his time either in his old apartment, on the planets or in one of the parks. Ever since Higgs had broken in, he had mostly kept away from Little Asgard. If he were to be cornered again, he'd preferred that to happen away from the more vulnerable members of his family - which in Loki's mind was about everyone else - and preferably surrounded by sharp teeth and claws. He doubted they would pose much danger to the almost god but they made him feel better.

The god was ready to go back to his studies. The thought of someone stronger than him posing a danger... the thought of someone stronger than him already unsettled him but the whole danger aspect made it worse. He greatly disliked worse.

It was only a short walk from where he had rested to the small cabin. He saw Dan standing in the door way and gave him a nod in greeting.

Dan nodded in reply, and waited until Loki was close enough before speaking. "Do you like coffee? Or would you prefer something else?" he offered. He'd invited Loki into his house, after all. It only seemed fair that he'd provide something to drink as well.

Azzie sat outside, cleaning behind his ears, and paused his bath to watch Loki walk past. The cat miaowed, then turned and headed off towards the nearest clump of trees. Dan watched Azzie in turn, and walked back into the house once the cat was away. "You can sit at the table, or on the couch, whichever you prefer," he said over his shoulder, as he went over to fill his mug up again.

"No, thank you," Loki answered Dan's question before he followed the man's gaze towards the cat. There was no point. The colour of his skin was already fading from death. Food and drink was nothing he could consume right now. He took a seat at the table and waited for Dan to join him.

Dan sat down at the table once his mug was refilled and he'd closed the front door.

"So, what happened when you met Higgs?" he asked, and then took a long drink of coffee. He set the mug down just as another cramp hit, although this one hit his lower arm rather than his calf. He said nothing at the time, but held the arm out straight against his side until the spasm passed, and then started working at the sore spot with his fingers.

"Did he tell you anything about himself?" he continued, as if the cramp hadn't happened.

The god watched silently. He could see what was happening. He did not comment on it though. "He did. He mentioned that he is from Earth but the last place he visited was similar to our home, only dying, he mentioned that the people that lived there were different from us." He thought about lying, he thought about omitting the truth. It was so much a part of himself. But Katherine liked this young man and she seemed to think that he could be an asset for his cause. "He said he knew me once but we parted ways. I would not be surprised if he others as well or any of that is a lie. What I do know is how his arrival has changed our future, since then it is smeared with tar and people who vanish." The god directed his glance at Dan. He wanted to let the gravity of it sink in. Maybe it was only something he could truly understand when you had witnessed the visions.

Ugh, the tar. He didn't bother trying to hide a scowl at the mention of that awful stuff.

"I went in search of Higgs' mind, mainly to stop Abra from doing the same thing. And I found a tiny gap," he explained, "and... I wound up in his mind. It was never my intention to end up where I did. But once I was there, I did the only thing I could do, and I explored it."

Then he held his hand out towards Loki, ready to share his memories of that whole trip with the other man.

Now that had been... something. The god leaned back in his chair as he pondered what he had just seen. "Are you sure that what was shown to you holds truth?" he asked. It was the first question that needed asking. Only a few years ago, Loki himself had been so sure of his powers that any knowledge he had extracted was the truth. He was the great god of trickery after all. But his self-confident had taken a few dents over the last few years. Nowadays, he felt the need to spent a lot more thought on his plans and conclusions. "The easiest way to mislead someone was to make them think they had extracted a secret all by themselves."
