Who: Maryanne
Where: Wheel 1 her new restaurant.
What: Bonding?
When: After the arrival
Rating: TBD
Open: to John, Edward, and or Joe
Status: On going

Impeccably clean hands and wax paper were two of her secret ingredients in every thing she made. Currently she was kneading out some dough on one of the larger tables that was in eyeshot of the kitchen, in case John needed her for anything, eyeshot of the play area that had been set up for her kids. Baby wrangling fence in place, though her's weren't really babies anymore. It kept them all out of trouble, giving them boundaries with a little freedom. With plenty of foam play mat on the floor to keep them safe.

Maryanne had her long dark hair tied up in a tail, to keep it out of her face, that bobbed with each forceful push of the heels of her hands into the roll in front of her. Today she was more dressed than most, a tshirt the older versions of her kids had made for her, it bore a picture of her whole family-John included- on the front and on the back. An apron was tied over dark color denim pants. But her feet were bare. It might be troublesome when it came to shifting, to be that clothed, but only the jeans would suffer.

As was habit, she'd started humming as she worked. This one, this song that she hummed, seemed suited though. 'Bad moon rising' by Creedence Clearwater. "Don't go around tonight, it's bound to take your life. There's a Bad moon on the rise."

Joe had read up about Maryanne opening up her new restaurant and thought he might go and have a look. See what it was like. If there was anything Joe knew and understood after his time at the Halcyon, it was the importance of community. How much they needed to stick together. While they weren't at war, they were all still stranded on a space station very far from home. They needed one another. Joe truly understood that, so he went to the new restaurant to show his support. He was hungry too and hoped he could get something to eat. He wasn't the best at cooking for himself, frankly, but he had tried to learn more over the months he had spent on the station.

Walking in, he took his hat off and offered a polite smile. He was as well dressed as ever, wearing a suit and tie, waistcoat, nice shirt and trousers with clean leather shoes. He was clean shaven too, his hair combed nearly.

He offered a polite smile in Maryanne's direction as he walked over.
"Quite the place you have here" he said with a nod. "I don't think we've met, have we? My name's Joe O'Hara"

It was mostly one huge room, wrapped in different murals, from different worlds, beautifully done to look as if you were looking out a window while you ate. With tables scattered about that accented the area rather than distracted from it. The only area that was almost out of the line of sight was the kitchen, which had its own area that didn't take away from the floor plan of the dining room. There were beautifully carved accordion doors if she wanted the kitchen completely out of sight, but that wasn't the case just then. Ten children aged from eight down to two years old, played in the little gated off area.

There wasn't a bell or anything to announce he'd walked through the door, but with Maryanne's senses she didn't need one. So as soon as Joe walked in she began cutting the dough she kneading to an end, gathering it up in a smooth lump and putting it into a greased bowl, just as he walked over. She wiped her hands clean on the apron around her waist, and offered him a friendly smile.

"I don't believe we have. Pleasures all mine, Mister O'hara." Her accent was thick, slow, and melodic like most other southerners. She held her hand out to him, intent on shaking his. She was a modern woman after all. "What brings you here?"

John was in the back, trying to make curry from scratch. It had been a while since he had tried. He wasn't the best cook, not really but he could when he wanted to. It was sort of like alchemy. It required the right measurements, the right timing, and John was good at that sort of thing with his magic so why not with cooking? He had measured out all the ingredients he needed to make his curry and laid them out ready to use. He wasn't quite in the mood for applying chaos magic to his cooking, at least at this stage. He was sort of wanting to impress Maryanne with his cooking and he wasn't sure why. He never liked failing all that much. At anything.

Joe offered a friendly smile to Maryanne. "Joe will do, please, if you don't mind?" he asked. Normally he was all well and good with being called Mr O'Hara. As a guest, as someone talking to colleagues and associates. It just didn't feel quite right with some people on the station. Or maybe he was just charmed by her accent. Almost a taste of home.

"Well I heard you had opened this place up and I thought I'd come along and try it out. If you're open that is?" he asked.

"I'm always open, Joe." If he was anyone else she might have regretted her words the second they were out of her mouth. But he was an old fashioned man, surely his thoughts wouldn't venture to the filthy. "I generally will make meals with easy to follow reheating instructions and put them in the fridge." Maryanne leaned forward just enough so that she could point to the giant double door behemoth of an appliance. "There will be stuff that's frozen in the freezer, which is on the wall directly behind John, that you could just take home for a meal later on in the week. Like soups and generally stuff that freezes well."

She turned back to him with a big smile. "But that's neither here nor there right now. What are you hankering for? I can do everything but Curry, but John is in there fixing that to be sure I know what it tastes like." And so far nothing was burning so that was good! Anything else could be fixed. Even burning could to an extent. And she could do curry, but it would be only by the book and not experience, and she liked experience.
