Dan had never owned a house before. He'd rented rooms and slept in loads of different girls' beds, he'd slept under bridges and outside under the stars, in storm drains and in jail cells, all sorts. But he'd never owned a house. Granted, nobody had bought this one or most of the materials they'd used to build it, but it was still his. His and Brenna's home. It was such a weird thought that every time it occurred to him, he'd stop for a moment and enjoy the feeling.
It hit him again as he was making coffee in the kitchen, so he let the coffee sit in the french press for a while as he walked round the living space, absently reaching out to touch the walls or some of the furniture as he passed by. It gave him the same sense of calmness and reassurance that he got from reaching out with his Shine and brushing against Abra and his dad's minds. "All will be well, and all will be well, and all manner of things will be well," he said softly to himself, and nipped into the small room he'd claimed as a study to lift a couple of papers on counselling that Cuddy had suggested he read.
He was going to sit at the kitchen table, drink his coffee and do his reading. Brenna would show up at some point, try to distract him (and succeed), and as he'd said, all manner of things would be well.
