It took Brenna a moment to realise that the voice speaking to her was not Dan's. That realisation came with a shock. Within seconds she was wide awake and she jumped up. Or rather, she tried to. There wasn't much space to jump up. But she noticed how close the other person was. He was almost breathing against her. The young Viking woman had learned more than once that strange men who came to you during the night hardly meant innocent intentions. Most of them had learnt that Brenna did not favour nightly advances.
"Ah, if you touch me, I will kill you!" The threat came automatically as she scrambled to her feet. Knees rammed into knees but she had decided that the responsibility lay on the man to stay away. She blinked as she finally realised who she was talking to.
"Ah, it is you," she stated as she started to look around. The whole situation spooked her. The man did not. Even Berger could defeat the weak foreigner who prayed to the wrong god. "Do not think I did not mean what I said." It was added for good measure, casually spoken. Threats and violent banter belonged to a Viking's life.
