It was a secluded spot. But it was not without a view. The hill looked right onto the ocean. A cliff close by. They could see sea creatures poking their head out of the water. It was a peaceful sight and the wood behind them offered them protection from preying eyes. The sound of the water crashing over the edge of the world was daunting. It was mesmerising and terrifying at the same time. It was hard not to notice the world end only a mile or so away from them.

Gen flopped down onto the blanket and glanced up at the man with her. She could not believe how lucky she was. John was incredible. He something so daring about him. Something she just could not resist and she knew that he could talk her into a lot with that voice of his - not everything maybe - but a lot more than most people. Lucy and Rachel were the only exception and that was because she knew them.

She bit her lip, trying to stare not too obviously, and instead busied herself with the task of unpacking the basket. "So... I figured something out. I am terrible at making cookies." Her muffins had been halfway decent. But the last batch of baking she had done had been a disaster. She had fished a tin out of the basket and opened it up. In it lay five forlorn looking attempt of gingernut cookies. They looked more brown than red. "Eat with caution."

John had just popped back from taking a cigarette break. Typically he didn't care too much. He smoked wherever he wanted when he wanted, but it had worked as a convenient excuse to sneak off briefly. He had paid for a gift for Gen and asked for it to be brought near where he and Gen would be meeting. He had gone off to meet with the woman who had brought the newly made gift with her, and he had collected it. Of course, he had a smoke too. Or rather a couple. And he'd no doubt forget and smoke later on.

John had set his coat to the side before joining her. He moved to sit down beside Gen, looking into the tin when she showed him what was inside.
"They look perfectly fine to me" he said. "Okay, maybe a bit overdone but I'm sure they'll be fine" he smirked, leaning over to press a kiss to her lips as he took one of the cookies out of the tin.
"See? Not that bad. Don't let me cook, I'm sure I'd end up making a mess of things" he smirked.

Genevieve leaned into the kiss. She could taste the cigarettes on his lips. People where she had grown up did not smoke. It was nothing they could afford anyway. If you had to decide between growing vegetables and growing tabacco, well, the choice was easy. So smoke for Gen was all John. When she went through the streets on earth and smelled it, she was immediately reminded of John.

"I think Lacey will be our rescue. These are the good ones. I gave the rest to Snuffles." The hellhound had devoured the burned gingernuts in quick bites. He enjoyed everything burned. "But I cut vegetables." She fished out other boxes from the basket and spread the on the blanket. Most things had been bought in Asgard.

For the longest time, John had grown accustomed to his oldest friend Chas cooking for them. He didn't have that when he joined the Legends, and he found he missed him even more being on the station. Not that he would have admitted that really, to anyone. There weren't many people that John had hoped would arrive on the station. Chas was one of them.

"See you were far more prepared than I was, and it was my idea so" he smirked, shrugging slightly. "But I did bring something to drink at least" he said, nodding to the bag he had brought. He typically liked stronger booze but had opted for a light bottle of wine. Of course, he always had his flask inside his jacket pocket.
"So was this what you'd hoped it would be or did you have something else in mind?" he asked with a teasing smile.

Gen smiled at John when he brought out the wine. She knew he had brought it with her in mind. Alcohol tended to go straight to her head. But she didn't mind. She felt safe at John's side and at least she knew he could drink a lot before he lost control over his mind.

"No, that's perfect," she said with a smile and gave him a kiss. She had to hold back not to linger. He was highly addictive. Her heart jumped every time she looked at him and she could feel herself blush.

John had planned on taking it easier. He tended to drink more when he was miserable. He drank a bit less when he wasn't so, or at least he drank differently. When he was miserable, he stayed on his own. He drank constantly and he chain smoked. When he was happy? He could relax more. He drank but he paced himself more. And that was how he was around Gen. More relaxed. Comfortable.

He smiled when she kissed him, holding on to the moment and cherishing it for all it was worth. He didn't even want to think about how easily he could lose it all. He didn't want to let the thought enter his mind.

"Bollocks, I think I forgot to bring cups" he said, realising he didn't bring anything for them to drink from. "Do you mind sharing out of the bottle?" he asked.

There was a smile that spread across her face. She liked that. It was as if her own version of a picnic had come true. Gen always did things her own way. She could have gone and fetched a few cups but it seemed like less of an adventure. Drinking wine from bottles and eating half burned cookies would be her preferred picnic.

"No," she said with a grin. "Not at all." She started opening more of the boxes and grabbed some of the bread to rip it into pieces. "So... what have you discovered around here?" She knew he liked to explore. She knew he liked to be prepared for everything. Most of all, he liked to learn for the very same reason. She agreed with that mentality. You learn to be prepared. You were prepared to be safe.

John popped the cork with a twist and placed it aside. That was an interesting question. He had been looking around quite a bit since the door opened. He had made something of an effort to tread carefully. Considering his history with some of the Asgardians on the station, he had to be careful. Not that it scared him or anything. And it wouldn't stop him from snooping around in places he probably shouldn't have been either.

"The market" he started. "Odin's great hall, now that's an interesting one. Exactly how you might imagine it with all the frill and pomp" he added, shaking his head. "All of this is though. It's no wonder that humans believed they were Gods, and no wonder they ended up thinking of themselves as Gods either. This place holds a great amount of power" he said, offering her the first sip from the bottle. "What about you? Seen anything interesting?" he asked with a smile.

Genevieve did imagine it. She imagined John in it as well. Then herself. Then Lucy. None of them belonged into frill and pomp. She google help but giggle at the thought. "Some places are a little bit over the top, aren't they?" But she also knew what he meant. There was an amazing amount of magic around and everyone around had so much poise and grace. "But I can feel as well..." She nodded.

"I've spent all my time among nature. I miss it and it's hard to find spots like this in modern earth. And the station..." She shook her head. "The parks are nice but blue sky... nothing replaces blue sky."

John smirked a touch at her response. It felt nice seeing eye to eye with someone, especially one he cared so much with. He often found himself butting heads with people on the station that believed that Loki and his family were true Gods. In a way, they were. That much belief was a powerful thing and with enough of it, John could easily exploit it to power his own magic. It wouldn't have been the first or last time.

Since she didn't take the bottle, he took a swig from it before offering it over to her again.
"Suppose so, yeah" John nodded. There difference was noticeable. A lot about the station hadn't felt right. It was one of the many reasons John had spent so much time creating leylines on the station. To help add a little of that magic to the place and give it a life it was missing. Create pools of power connected by streams of magic all over the station. A second protection he could initiate to keep the station and everyone on board safe. What he hadn't told anyone really was how connected he was to the station through those lines.

"Suppose we should enjoy it while we can, yeah?" he smiled. "Have you thought about taking a few seeds and cuttings back with you? Grow some of the plants you find here?" he asked.

"I agree," she said and smiled back. That was what she always tried to do. Make the most out of the good moments she had. Tomorrow might already look differently. You never knew who would still be around.

"Do you think I could make them grow throughout the corridors? I hate the metal look." Everything was neon light and metal. The whole station was so impersonal. Even if she had hated the island, it had been home with its paths, forests and the ocean. She wanted that part of it back.

"I don't see why you wouldn't be able to set up planters" John replied. "Could do that. Make a project out of it". There was a concern that plants growing wild on the station could cause structural damage to the station itself, especially if those plants fed on the leylines. What John would have done to have Swamp Thing around to help...

John took another swig from the bottle before he put the top back on and set it aside. He had offered it to her a couple of times and she hadn't seemed interested yet. Besides, they had plenty of time. They could share in one anothers company, eat and drink together, perhaps even become more intimate.

"Maybe we should be doing a bit more to make the station feel more like ours" John said thoughtfully. "I know there's bits of it that have been changed and people have opened up shop but maybe we can do a bit more to make it... ours, you know? Something that belongs to everyone that lives there. Give it a bit of character" he smirked.

Gen hadn't noticed the offer. She still didn't. Her mind was too busy thinking about her life and all the pieces that were not quite right yet. Her head was in the clouds at times.

"I would love that. That is brilliant idea." A project. She needed that. Something to keep her occupied. "Everything just seems so empty you know. All the apartments... all the shops. Here, there is life everywhere... and not so much goddamn metal." Her eyes danced as she swore and her voice took on a silly tone. She was not someone to swear unless things took a turn for the worse. But all the metal deserved it.

Finally, her eyes fell onto the bottle. She remembered Johnn holding it out to her. "Oh, I'm sorry. I ignored you, didn't?" She screwed up her face apologetically and then snatched the bottle. She took a sip and put it down.

"Don't worry about it, love" he replied. He was glad he could help inspire her though. Usually his ideas were pretty bad or dangerous or both. Not that he admitted that. He had a great deal of confidence in himself and his ideas, most of the time at least.

"Suppose that's one of the problems with having so few people on a space station" he replied. "But maybe if we made some parts of it feel even more lived in, made them feel even more like ours, it could feel even more like home" he added. "Suppose you could reach out and ask everyone else what they think?" he offered.

He wasn't sure though. It was a nice idea, but getting everyone to co-operate on something that big? He wasn't sure it would work out. Everyones ideas would clash. But a part of him had to believe it would work. To top it off, he didn't really want everyone knowing he had a soft, thoughtful side like that either. He could share with Gen but he didn't want the station knowing.

Genevieve nodded. "It's a lot like the island was, you know? Maybe that's why I hate it. Maybe we could put some charms in place. You know..." She pulled out her wand and swished it. Little butterflies appeared and fluttered around the pair. It was one of the first charms she had learned. Right after her first curses. Defence had been the most important part.

"But I like that... asking everyone. People on the station don't do as much together as we used to on the island. In time, we were a tight knit community." She treasured the birthday parties and occasional feasts. But people often only got together for big occasions, not everyday life.

Her magic was quite different to his. Wands were only used for particular rituals with his magic and even then they didn't have the same flair to them. Her form of magic seemed much more simplified. He had wondered how easy it would be to learn her sort of magic. He had been teaching her his sort for a while now.
"You should teach me how to do that" John said with a grin, watching as the butterflies flew around them. It was certainly very pretty magic and not the sort he gravitated towards unless he wanted to impress and flirt with another magic user.

"Might be another project for you" John replied. "Helping improve the morale on board the station. Getting people together more regularly. Turn this place back into a proper community" he said, knowing full well that stuff really wasn't for him. The thing was, he was at least trying to make an effort for Gen. Trying to trust more people and let them into his life and that had started a little with Bryn and even more so with Gen.

She grinned when he asked to learn her magic. He was so much more skilled than her. But she also knew he liked to learn and while this was just a pretty display. It did not mean that it could not come in handy here and there. "I can. We should get you a wand though." If there would ever be a door to her world, it was the top spot on her list. She needed a wand for herself. One that truly suited her. But it would be curious to see if Mr Ollivander would have one for John as well. "If there is ever a door to my parents' world, we should try for it."

"And that might indeed be a project for me," she said with a smile. She knew better than to ask him if he wanted to help. He wasn't the type for it. His trust in his fellow humans still needed grow. She hoped it would one day.

"I'd like to see your world" John replied. He was curious to see just how different it was and how different their magical worlds were. How they treated one another. What sort of language they used. Were any of their magical traditions identical? Maybe similar... But the way she used a wand was unlike anything he personally knew how to do and John had studied a variety of magical practices from all over his world, some more obscure than others. He knew the names of long forgotten Gods from South America and Africa and spoke to them with respect in his spell work. He knew old words and old ways but he knew nothing of hers.

"Plenty for you to do on the station then" John replied with a big grin. It might not have looked as if John did much on the station aside from setting up those leylines. He made sure they were maintained as much as he needed to, and when he wasn't busy with his own practices, he was busy studying and learning more about the station, the alien languages and anything else he could get his hands on.

"There is... not that you don't keep me busy," she said. Genevieve meant her studies but there was very much a different kind of meaning implied. She would happily be spending the rest of her life being that kind of busy. A rosey colour had risen to her cheeks and she fetched the bottle again to take another sip before holding it out to him.

"But I think you would find my parents' world very strange. It's a more, uhm..." She wasn't quite sure how to describe it. "Fantastical magical world. Unicorns, dragons, brooms you can fly with and a big castle where everyone learns how to use spells." Gen had spent many evenings imagining how it would have been growing up there. She imagined her friends going to Hogwarts, her parents waving goodbye to her on the platform... it would have been a different life. "Not that I know much about it... I've only been there once in my life. But the stories make it sound amazing."

John smirked a touch at her facial expression. There were few things John loved in the universe, things he found himself drawn to over and over again. Cigarettes, alcohol, magic, and sex. John was fairly experimental when it came to his sex life, switching between being submissive and dominate. He primarily enjoyed playing the submissive role, which surprised a few of his partners in the past. Of course, he knew she was mostly talking about his teaching her magic. He'd have to show her some of the sexual magic he had learned.

Taking his mind out of the gutter, he picked up the bottle of wine to take a drink. It was that or he started smoking again, which he was trying his best to avoid. Quitting wasn't easy.

"I'm familiar with creatures like that" he replied, that cheeky smirk returning. "Not really familiar with how your lot do magic though but I would like to learn. And I'm sure you'd enjoy seeing more of your homeworld" he added. It was clear by the way she spoke that a part of her wished she had been raised there and had those experiences. It was a shame she wasn't able to.

She had an idea where his mind had went and she playfully elbowed him in the side. That smirk of his - it was irresistible. She had to at least pretend it wasn't.

"Yes, I would... I'm just... what if my parents are there?" she asked. Her smile faltered all of a sudden and sigh followed. "I just... I can't just go up to them and say 'hi, I'm your daughter'." It was a tricky part. That was the one thing dreaded. Right now, she could dream about it but then she would need to make an actual decision. Should she watch from afar, ignore them altogether or try to get to know them in person?

That was a problem. Something he hadn't really considered, given the sort of relationship he had with his own Father. He never knew his Mother either since she had died while giving birth to John. Johns family was his older sister, and an Aunt and Uncle who had helped raise them when he sister wasn't looking after him. John didn't think of family as much as maybe he should have.

"Could pretend to be someone else" John offered. "That way you could meet them. Same thing sort of happened with me" he nodded. He reached into his pocket to take out a wallet and from inside that, he took out a photograph which he held out to Gen. It was a photo of John sitting in a pub, with a blonde woman behind the bar. "That's my Mum" he said, pointing to the woman. "I met her not long before I showed up here. Mate of mine managed to get the picture and she gave me it" he added. "I didn't tell her who I was. I couldn't but I was at least glad I got to meet her at least once in my life"

Gen's attention perked up at that and then she looked at the picture. It was a part of him she never thought she would see. She smiled at the picture. "She is beautiful." There was a warmth in Gen's voice as she inspected every line on her face to compare it to John's. "What was she like?" Genevieve glanced back up at him, studying his face. She had envied Lucy for being able to reconnect with the mother she had lost through her own birth. But it was silly, wasn't it? Lucy had gained her birth parents only to lose the parents that had raised her. Gen still had Laura. Any kind of family was to be treasured. It didn't matter if you were connected by blood or not.

What John hadn't mentioned was that he had fully planned on doing something to ensure he hadn't been born. But time travel didn't work that way and he was unable to stop his Father from being able to procreate. Still, the memory of meeting his Mother was something he held close even if things did go south in the end. It was his own fault. It always was.

"I didn't get to speak to her for too long" he admitted, looking at the photograph. "But she was kind and caring. She looked out for the people who came to her bar. And she was head over heels in love with my Dad too" he added. John knew that his Dad was an abusive asshole. That if he too ever ended up being a Father, he would never want to be like his Dad was to him.

John didn't want to bring the mood down any further. He put the photograph away, trying to rid himself of dark thoughts. Thoughts that made him feel nothing but guilt. His Mothers spirit was somewhere out there in limbo and he hadn't done anything to save her, just like he took years to save Astra. And even then he had only saved her in one timeline, not necessarily his own.

For Gen, those were the precious moments. She had always bonded with people over the bad times they had experienced. "That sounds like a lovely memory," she said with a smile, not knowing that it wasn't just as lovely as she thought. "I wonder what mine would be like. I think my father would flirt with me." If he deemed her attractive enough... until John, she had never thought of herself in that way. It had also never really been important to her. "I heard he was quite the ladies' man." The memories of digging out his wand from his grave cut through her thoughts and her smile faltered for a moment before she stitched it back in place. She did not want to touch those images. "That would be so strange."

She pulled out a picture of her own, flattened it and held it out for John to take. "That's my mother." She said pointing at a pretty blond in a summer dress smiling at the camera. "Dominique. And that's Sirius. My father." Next to the blond stood a handsome young man with black hair and a devilish grin on his face. He wore a black leather jacket and was leaning against a motorcycle. "From what I've heard is that he really loved his motorcycle. It can fly too. Quite cool."

John looked at the photograph Gen had taken out, looking to where she pointed each time. It was interesting, seeing what some of her family looked like. He hadn't really met the ones close to her on the station either, and he wasn't sure if she had met the ones he was close with. Not that he was close to that many people on the station but still.

"A flying motorcycle?" he asked "Bloody hell" he added with a smile and a chuckle. "Yeah it is cool" he replied with a nod of his head. He picked up the wine bottle and took the top off again.
"Here's a drink to your family, and a drink to my Mum" he said, taking a drink and offering the bottle to Gen again.

Genevieve smiled brightly and then took the bottle from John. "To your Mum and my parents," she said and took a sip. The alcohol was ran down her throat and she could feel her head getting lighter, a warmth spreading through her body. Genevieve pocketed the picture again. "My father, he was quite the rebel. He ran away from home when he was sixteen. From what I've heard his parents were horrible. Fanatics who believed that wizards and witches should only ever have relations with other wizards and witches." She shook her head. It was a life she couldn't imagine. "Made father's youth a hell because he did not believe in it."

"Sounds like the sort of bloke I would have got along with" John smirked. John left home fairly young too. Around the same age, actually. But he didn't have a motorbike. John ended up in London, drawn to the punk scene.

"And it sounds like your Dad had some decent sense to get out of that situation. Sounds like they were a bunch of elitist inbred tossers..." he paused. Usually he would have carried on. Never excusing himself, never apologising. But he did. "Sorry, Never did learn when to keep my mouth shut" he said, raising his eyebrows briefly.

Despite the insult to her family, Gen had to chuckle. Especially when he started to apologise. She had learned that he didn't apologise very often and that made it all the sweeter.

"It's okay. I think they are indeed a bunch of elitist inbred tossers." She smiled. From what she knew, her father would have whole-heartedly agreed. "I think you would have liked my mother's father too. He worked as a curse breaker for a wizard bank." Gen had forgotten the name. She hated that at times. Things everyone in the wizarding world knew were lost to her.

"A wizard bank?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. "Fair enough" he chuckled. It wasn't all that odd. Hell had its vault, making most other things seem fairly realistic.

"More interesting that my family" he replied. Although that technically wasn't true. His immediate family were fairly average. His more distant relatives however? King Konstentyn came to mind. "I was the only one who had an interest in magic. Didn't appeal to my sister and my Dad? He was just an arsehole" John said, taking a swig of wine. "Do you mind if I smoke?" he asked, trying to be more considerate.

Gen shook her head. Truth was, she did mind. But the truth also was that he made her heart beat far too quickly for her to deny him his wish. Smoking belonged to him. While she preferred a kiss that came from his lips when he had not smoked, she enjoyed the smell on his clothes. It reminded her who they belonged to.

"I'm sorry your Dad was terrible," she said. It was an invitation to continue without putting the pressure of a question on him.

John knew his smoking annoyed people. It certainly annoyed the Legends. Sara had a habit of plucking them from his mouth and tossing them away. She was just looking out for him, not wanting him to lose his life to cancer or some other illness brought about from smoking too much. Quitting was never easy. He smoked quite a lot and put in a great deal of effort to smoke less around some people. Especially Gen.

"I can hold off" he replied. He was certain she just didn't want to say no to him. "Come on, let's just share something to eat, enjoy the view" he smiled at her, moving in a bit closer. "Don't get many moments like this on the station, so we should enjoy it while we're here" he paused, looking to her with a cheeky smirk. "Enjoy one anothers company"
