"I- I just- No, I can't." Jacob shook his head, clearing his throat. He couldn't have ignored the tone of her voice even if the station inexplicably started to explode around them. And then Edward had asked his playful question and his mind had gone straight to all the other meanings of 'mate'. He wondered if there was an audible pop to go along with this brain misfiring. "You made that noise. He said something that can be taken a thousand different ways. And now I can't think of anything that isn't going to sound incredibly base or debauched without my usual playful charm. I certainly don't want to offend your delicate sensibilities, Edward." He said, giving him the lightest of one-handed shoves to his shoulder as he went past him.
He dropped the clothes he'd been carrying onto one of the chairs next to the settee before working on getting his gauntlet off once more, keeping his eyes focused on it as he spoke. "So, if you like me charming I'm going to need another bottle of something or one of you is going to have to kiss me. Hopefully, that'll be enough for me to remember how to be charming."
