Jacob watched the bottle a moment before returning his eyes to Edward, "You could have said something, you do know that. I have ears, I have a future wife out there with a baby on the way. You can talk to me, not that I don't see the appeal of pickling yourself." Jacob was one to talk, he avoided his feelings every time they came up. But they weren't talking about him. And while he may have desperately wanted to be drunk at that moment too, he was the sober one and he needed to make sure Edward was safe and looked after. The pirate may have spent more time drunk than most people on the station, but this was still new enough for them that he might get himself unto trouble without supervision.
He reached out and touched his shoulder again, somewhat relieved that Edward's thoughts had turned more serious. "Anyway, have you had enough? I don't think your dignity could take me hefting you over my shoulder and carrying you back to the room, so I'd rather walk you there if I can."
