Brynhild had not needed to say it. Of course she had thought him a monster. That he should rot. That she was done because he was selfish and unworthy. It had been clear in her words of hate.
He knew why Zu spend much of her time at their place. A part of it was because she did not want to come home to her mother having brought home another man. He had heard her talking to Katherine about it. He did not say that. "Children will never stop needing you. A parent will never lose the potential to hurt them. How much heartache did you have before you were a century old? How much did you learn before you crossed a millennia?" He tilted his head to his side. "I will not deny that they need their independence but this place it puts them through pain time and time again. The children have each other but their young minds cannot replace a parent. I am so much older than them and I cannot deny the comfort my mother's presence brings." Maybe Brynhild had been too long without parents to remember what it was like. There was something special about it. "All Suzume wants is her old life back. She won't get that but it will take time for it to truly sink in. I have never stood in anyone's way. It is not even my house. It is my daughter's. It was my brother's. And they just collected people. My say is not nearly as important as that of the children. They do what they want anyway." A smile found his way back onto his face. They had a headstrong group in the house. His daughter. His niece. His grandchildren. He operated in the background. They ran the front of the house.
