Loki opened his mouth and shut it again quickly. The man was toying with him. A thought dawned on him. "Ah, you are one of those then..." Some Midgardians, he had learned, did not understand the meaning of the word aunt and uncle, niece and nephew... they had twisted it, turning it into meaning 'child I care about because I like their parents'. Honestly, Midgardians were confusing. You stepped down to Midgard and you understand every word perfectly and a century later the language had changed and some of the words that had remained had different meanings. One century boys were clothed in pink, the next it was girls and everyone pretended that it never been any different. A word like 'gay' had once been used in contexts of joy and a short while ago 'awe' had only had negative connotation.
"I have to say... you mortals change the meaning of words as frequently as some Asgardians change their shoes... it is hard to keep up with your language." He was glad that he had more than his understanding of English to draw upon but often the subtle meaning still got lost.
