Saying that Jacob didn't lack for confidence was perhaps the nicest way of saying it, so he didn't bother to comment. Edward would understand why Jacob was so confident soon enough. He'd probably have all the not so nice things to say once he found out. Jacob was actually looking forward to it, just to see how Edward would react. He had tried to keep the older man away from his gear, not that he didn't trust him, it was simply a matter of not telling him too much of his future since he might begin by talking about his voltaic bombs and conclude with how Edward had perished.
No one needed to hear how they would die and what their death might do to the greater world.
"The brotherhood?" Jacob immediately made a face. A drink like the one he was holding deserved something more fun. "No. No. To strange new doorways," he grinned when he finally settled on something. "May they always lead to good booze and even better company." He touched his mug to Edward's then took a deep drink, instantly regretting this life choice. It was good, whatever it was, but he was certain it was going to kill him.
