"It's all right, luv. You've nothing to be sorry for" John tried to reassure her while she hugged him and clung to his shoulders. He tried to rub her back, show her that the contact was real. That he was there for her, even when things didn't always go right between them. He still cared about her. How could he not?
Eventually she loosened her grip and spoke once more. John wasn't sure how long the silence between them had gone on. Probably only a few minutes, and yet when she did speak, her words pierced the air. He recognised that kind of self blame. He did it enough to himself so he recognised it right away.
"I don't understand. What do you mean, I was right about you? About what?" John asked. He could have easily used the chance to brag. To feel superior about being right about something but he didn't feel the need to. He didn't really know what she was talking about for starters. He wanted to understand.
