Gen smiled at that. She wasn't sure whether it was because of the genuine concern in Bryn's words or the irony behind the situation. "If I understood Zatanna correctly, it is much more likely going to be the other way around." It was an odd thing to say those words so casually. But she had accepted that. John was the way he was because of his past. Gen was the way she was because of hers.
"You can ask Lucy, Rachel or my Mum... they can all tell you that I would never play with anyone." She wished John would open up more. But it would come in time... they were both so different. "I cannot swear that I won't hurt him. That would be a lie. Neither of us is perfect. When you are close to someone else, you sometimes hurt each other. It's just human." Her experience relied on her encounters with family and friends. Stress could drive you to a breaking point. You say things that are so deeply wrong in hindsight or you don't trust someone when you should. "But I think we can be good for each other." She shrugged. "Sometimes you have to take a chance. If you don't, you will forever be alone with fear and regret. I've had enough of that in my life." This was her attempt to break those chains. Maybe it was foolish to... maybe it was foolish not to... who knew?
