Rescuing John - Inside Nergal's Lair
"Ho taerg Etidorhpa ohw swolla eht noitcennoc fo sluos hguorht evol dna noissap, wohs su eht htap ot eht nam ohw sah thguorb su rehtegot, Nhoj Enitnatsnoc." She wasn't even fully through the portal when she started the spell but by the time she and the others had come through they were connected by a glowing white intangible thread. The threads started at their hearts and merged into one some feet ahead of them and wound off down one of the halls. All they would have to do was follow it to John, yet Zatanna knew better than to think it was that simple.
She turned, looking back at the women who had come with her and then around to the decor, trying to keep her expression impassive. Her eyes caught Bryn's and she gave her a confident nod.
"Right, that will show us where John is," She started, keeping her voice low. "I know this place is unnerving but the sooner we get to him the sooner we can leave. Don't listen to any of the screams you hear or voices you can't place, we cannot help the souls here, not yet at least. Keep an eye on the shadows, especially the ones behind you. Nergal likes his tricks, so trust nothing but each other." Her stomach felt cold and heavy already, she was sure her heart was beating loud enough for the others to hear but she pushed on.
As important as she had felt the warning was it seemed unnecessary as they reached the door without being accosted, but that only made Zee more uneasy. There should have at least been one torturer roaming the halls, keeping watch on the souls, even Nergal himself. There had been no one, just the screams coming from behind the other doors, but there wasn't time to worry about it. She willed away the tracking spell and touched the heavy door, "Nepo." She whispered and when it opened for them she stepped aside. "Go on, I'll make sure we're not cut off."
