She nodded and bit her lip. Some of the memories were not kind. Seeing Ruby like that... knowing that she had let her down, that she had hurt her friend. It hurt. Worse was the uncertainty. They would have a hard path ahead of them, standing up against the current government once more.
"The government is still corrupted," she started right in the middle of the explanation. She wanted to go slow. It was impossible. "Some just pretend to be on our side." It was clear who us was. The psi children. Kids like her who had been feared and locked up in camps of horror. Until Ruby had come along. Until her friend and all the others had made a stand and shown the public what the conditions in the camps were really like. It had never been about a cure. "Cruz." The president they helped to elect. "She isn't pushing change as much as thought. It's all stalling and getting worse. Some bills are even being revoked. And I've played along." She felt stupid. "I've been their poster child. Their 'look how tame these kids are' and 'look how much we try to improve public opinion' alibi. And there's this man. Moore. He's running for president and he's trying to turn the public against us. He's building camps again." For Zu this sentence said it all. Being back in one of them had been her own personal horror. "He's a businessman and we are his business. He's trying to make money from selling psi kids. It's not the worst though. They tried to frame me for attacks. I've been on the run for a while. Moore kidnapped Ruby and we broke her out. I don't know if it's all going to be okay again. Mama, I've basically declared myself a terrorist. We are trying to take back the government." And now there was nothing she could do.
