Joe had tried to prepare himself for what could be on the other side of the door. But how could he truly prepare? Sure, he had dressed up nice, like he always did. Smartly dressed in a long sleeved white shirt, waistcoat, tie, suit jacket and suit trousers, polished leather shoes, and a long grey coat over the top of it all, the look finished off with a well fitted hat. He was clean shaven, wearing a small amount of cologne, his hair combed neatly beneath his hat.
The last time he was in London there were more people there that dressed like him, especially among the more wealthy. And Joe had been a celebrity of sorts, albeit a somewhat minor one given that his broadcasts primarily reached the United States. He had taken a substantial pay cut to stick around in London, doing his part in the war when his home country didn't want to entertain the thought of involving themselves in yet another war. Not so soon after the last one.
Joe took a deep breath, tapping the rim of his hat before he opened the door and stepped through. He hadn't quite expected to see a church when he stepped out but there it was. The door to Derry had led to a library, Joe only supposed it made sense that the door would lead somewhere indoors. And given its apparent connections to the priest, it made even more sense as to where it opened up. Joe stepped out and looked around. Outside, beyond the walls of the church lay London, but was it anything like the London he knew? How much of it had been destroyed since he was there last? How long had they held out? And were the Nazi's eventually defeated in his timeline? Joe didn't get nervous about much, but seeing his old home so far into the future made him pause. Glancing upwards, he muttered, "If you're truly up there, if you're truly watching over us, I pray that you gave this city the chance it deserved..."
