Hródolf thought hard about what his nan had asked him, all while his fingers made a tangle in Dan's hair. "Mam says Dan and Benna havin' a marry is gonna make Dan her brother." He fell quiet for all of a few seconds, before squirming to get put down. Dan set him down on his feet, and Hródolf ran over to his nan. "He's gonna be like Uncle Floki! You his new mam?" he asked, "cause his mam's in... innnn... the floor."
Astrid was watching Dan as Hródolf thought out loud, and saw how his face fell, the moment his mam was mentioned. And she noticed how he covered it up quickly with his coffee mug as well.
"You will need to learn many things, Dan, son of Jack. But not right now," she told him. "Now is a time to celebrate your news. What of Jack? And Abra? Do they know yet?"
"Abra knows. I couldn't keep secrets from her, even if I wanted to. And I haven't told my dad yet, no. I wanted to ask permission first before I told anyone. I think he knows something's up, though." Dan was holding his mug with both hands, and was smiling again - not as brightly as before, but it was a genuine smile and that was what counted.
