"Well, no, we, uh... we don't have swords," Dan agreed, smiling even more when he saw how Bryn was reacting. He would take that as a 'yes', he decided.
"Why do we need a goat and a boar?" he asked, just as Hródolf came running over and started trying to climb up his legs.
"Whoa, calm down, monkey!" he said, careful to put his coffee mug back on the table before it got spilled, and then he picked the little boy up so they were face to face. "What's up, kiddo?"
"Mam says," Hródolf began, then screwed his face up as he worked out his question, "Mam says you're gonna marry Benna! Be like Mam and Da."
Dan just nodded as Hródolf's fingers automatically found their way into his hair, and started braiding. He was used to it by now. "That's right, yeah. Is that okay? Do you mind?"
Hródolf just grinned. "Nan! [Dan's gonna be my uncle!]" he yelled, loud enough to make Dan wince.
Astrid crossed over to hand her mam her tea, still smiling. "[He will need a lot of teaching,]" she said in a quiet voice, ever the practical one, "[and there is the fact that Brenna is barren...]"
