Katherine tried to be patient through the stutter. She was used to Bill's stutter but it had never been this bad. It made her annoyed at herself. The kid - well, adult now - was not to blame. Mostly, it made her angry at whatever did this. By now, she was pretty sure that there was something that did this. Why else would a place be the dictating factor? Or maybe she just wanted it to be something she could fight... for Katherine, it was easier that way.
The moment he mentioned the house, her own frustration was put on a break. She immediately knew which house Bill had been talking about. It had reminded her of the little boy and the bike he loved so much. "That is your house?" she asked, full of wonder. It was a piece of a puzzle she had yet to put together. But there was something in his voice that made the light feeling retreat. He did not seem happy. She wondered what to say. Would she dig up unwanted memories if she commented on his mood or was there something he wanted to talk about? She decided to give it a chance. "Unfond memories?" It was a soft question. Easily brushed away. Of course the house was attached to terrible memories. Georgie and his parents' distance but there were always good ones too. Brought by friends and kinship.
