John shrugged a little in response. "Little differences. Wherever there's people there's always much of the same" he said in a fairly flat tone. John never much sounded all that interested in the day to day mundane things. Maybe because he could never really truly take them for granted. The moment he let his guard slip, the moment he started to relax into a normal life that took interest in the day to day, he invited chaos into his life and unrest.
He took another drag from the cigarette and a drink. If there were few dependable things in his life, they were booze and cigarettes. And the good thing about the portal was that he could at least top up on both every now and then, along with things he might have missed from home. Well, as close to home as he could get being on a space station countless miles away.
"I'm probably not the best company, luv" he assured her.
