John saw that look in his eyes. That spark of interest. That was what John wanted. Was he genuinely trying to trick poor Sam? He was, wasn't he? Well, at least Sam would be part of a back up plan... And it wasn't the first time John had pulled something like that. But back then things were a bit different. He didn't have much choice. Here, surely he had a choice? But what if the containment vessel failed? That was the thing... That was where the trickery lay. Because if it did fail, Sam would be there. And John would use him to ensure that whatever he summoned didn't end up taking over the ship. And then again, that was only if he failed to send the creature back to Hell... If he could summon it from Hell, he could return it. He was more than certain that Sam would not be needed to contain the Demon. And besides, this was another way for John to test Sam out. See how he responded to different situations.
But Sam hadn't agreed just yet. And John, even the master con artist was only just beginning.
He smiled at Sam's curiosity. "I need to test something" he started, taking out his cigarettes and lighting one. "I need to know just how far Hell's reach is. And for that, I want to try and summon something. Something minor, easy to trap" he said, patting the engraved bottle. "That's where this thing comes in. Minor Demon containment vessel. I had planned on trying to summon one and if it works, either sealing it away in this, or sending it back to Hell. Depends on how things work out" he added with a shrug. "But I need to know where their reach stops. So, are you with me, old son?"
